At The Barn at Pengelly, sustainability is at the heart of our operations. As a newly diversified business originating from a fifth-generation farm, we are dedicated to implementing practices that positively impact the environment, our local community, and our business operations. Nestled within a 200-acre farm, we continually strive to improve and maintain our environmental footprint.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
Renewable Energy
- We utilize renewable energy sources, including solar panels, and have installed an Electric Vehicle (EV) charger for use by guests and staff.
Zero-Waste Practices
- Our venue bar and honeymoon cabin are crafted from fallen wood and reclaimed materials sourced from our farm, ensuring zero-waste production.
Wildlife Support
- Bird and bat boxes are installed on the honeymoon cabin to provide habitats for wildlife.
- We plant 5 acres of wildflower fields annually, creating vital food sources for insects, birds, and mammals, supporting pollination and biodiversity.
Tree Planting
- In 2023, we planted over 200 trees and continue to plant new trees each year to help offset carbon emissions.
Water Conservation
- Our venue utilizes an on-site spring water source, reducing reliance on local water supplies and eliminating the need for chemical treatments.
Community Engagement
- We actively support our local community by employing local talent and participating in community days.
Natural Habitats
- Our five natural lakes provide habitats for a variety of wildlife, including fish, herons, and geese, promoting a thriving ecosystem.
Sustainable Products
- We use B-Corp certified products such as Seep and Smol for cleaning, ensuring eco-friendly and safe practices.
- Our toiletries supplier, Bramley, avoids single-use plastics and uses biodegradable ingredients safe for rivers and oceans.
Our sustainability initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to preserving the environment and fostering a positive impact on the community. By embracing these practices, we aim to ensure a thriving, sustainable future for generations to come.
